Train-the-trainer
Internal leaders upskilled to run their own team workshops, not just attend one
a global insurance company launched a large-scale management capability development scheme, built around a three-day program to energize People Managers to connect and engage with their teams
A management program that needed to outlast the training day itself
This global insurance company wanted its People Managers equipped to build engaged, high-performing teams, through a three-day program designed to help them connect and engage with the people they led.
A single training event risked fading once managers went back to their day jobs, so the organization needed a way to turn personal insight into an ongoing capability that managers could keep using, and keep spreading, on their own.
That meant giving each manager a genuine understanding of their own management style, and giving the organization a way to cascade that capability internally rather than relying on external delivery for every team.
Personal insight, then the tools to spread it internally
A Wave-based personality assessment, mapped to eight management roles, then handed to the organization’s own people to run.
Assess management style
People Managers completed the Wave® Professional Styles personality questionnaire, a 40-minute assessment, and received a Work Roles Report assessing their alignment against eight roles from the Work Roles model.
Develop each manager
Development sessions using each manager’s personal Work Roles report gave insight into their management style, and guidance for working with colleagues who had contrasting styles.
Scale it internally
Train-the-trainer sessions upskilled internal leaders to facilitate their own team-building workshops, so managers could run open conversations about strengths, development areas and working styles without ongoing external delivery.
People Managers facilitating team-building conversations themselves, rather than waiting on external delivery
A capability program that didn’t need us to keep running it
Pairing personal Work Roles insight with train-the-trainer delivery gave this insurance company a management development program that kept working after the initial rollout.
Each manager left the program with a specific, personal understanding of their management style through their Work Roles Report, including where a preferred style could become a liability if overplayed, not just where it was a strength.
Train-the-trainer sessions then handed the capability to the organization’s own internal leaders, who went on to run their own team workshops, spreading the program’s benefit further than a single round of external delivery could reach on its own.
