One workforce, several different experiences of change
The pandemic changed how almost everyone worked, but not everyone experienced that change the same way.
Sodexo's employees were navigating rapid change driven by the global pandemic. That meant doing more with less, an extended shift to remote working, and the challenge of maintaining connection and productivity in new working environments.
With a workforce spanning several generations, a single organization-wide response risked missing real differences in how different age groups were coping, and where they most needed support.
A 13-minute survey, read by age band
One short questionnaire gave a fast, segmented view of resilience across the whole workforce.
175 employees completed the Wave Focus Styles questionnaire, a 13-minute assessment measuring workplace agility and resilience.
Results fed into a Building Resilient Agility Report, broken down by age band (under 40s, under 50s, and 50 and over) rather than a single organization-wide score, so real differences between groups could be seen rather than averaged away
The approach sits alongside Saville's work on change readiness and team development: understanding not just whether people are coping with change, but which groups need a different kind of support
Fast, low-friction rollout
175 employees completed a 13-minute questionnaire, with no specialist involvement needed to launch it.
Segment by age band
Results compared under 40s, under 50s and 50-and-over groups against the Building Resilient Agility model, rather than a single blended score.
Surface where support is needed
Findings pointed to which dimensions of resilience were strongest, and which needed attention, group by group.
a clear, age-band view of resilience strengths and challenge areas, not a single blended score
A clearer picture of resilience, group by group
Instead of one organization-wide score, Sodexo got a breakdown of where resilience was strong, and where it needed support, by age band.
The under 40s age band scored highest in Enabling New Ways of Working, while the under 50s group scored below the mean in Staying Connected, and the 50-and-over group scored above it. Maintaining Drive stood out as a strength that aligned with organizational values, while Staying Connected and Dealing with Change were flagged as the areas needing most attention.
The findings reinforced the importance of reciprocal mentoring across age bands, using older and younger employees' different strengths to help each other stay connected through a period of rapid change.
