What does a numerical reasoning test measure?
A numerical reasoning test shows how accurately someone interprets and evaluates numerical data. Use it for finance, operations, and commercial roles, where a misread figure turns into a costly decision. Numerical reasoning is one part of a wider cognitive ability assessment.
In our study of 214 high-potential middle managers, numerical reasoning was the strongest predictor of how their own managers rated their performance.
Every candidate is scored on the same scale and compared against people in similar roles, so the shortlist is easy to explain to a hiring manager.
A short mobile-first option uses number patterns and minimal language, so candidates in any country can take it on the device they have.
Know every score is theirs
A numerical test taken at home raises a fair question about outside help. Here is what protects each result.
No two tests alike
Each candidate sees different numerical questions of matching difficulty, drawn at random, so a shared answer sheet is of little use.
Patterns that don’t fit
A check runs inside every test and flags response patterns that look unusual, including the kind AI use can leave. You’re prompted to retest, with no disruption to the candidate experience.
Supervise the big decisions
Retest flagged candidates on a supervised version, or add remote supervision from the start for regulated and senior hiring.
What clients see
“It’s like an antenna going up before I meet a candidate. One person we asked to redo the assessment was completely open about having used AI.”
One skill, several formats
Finance and analysis roles
A full numerical reasoning test for graduates, professionals, and managers who work with data every day.
Operational and apprentice roles
A version pitched for frontline, operational, and apprentice hires, with results compared against people in those roles.
Global, mobile first
Number pattern questions inside a 12-minute test built for phones, with minimal language, for hiring across countries.
Common questions answered
What buyers and hiring managers ask us most about this test.
A full numerical reasoning test takes 16 to 24 minutes, depending on the version that fits the role. Inside a combined test, the numerical section takes four to six minutes, or five minutes in our mobile-first global test.
No, and that is deliberate. Each candidate gets a randomized set of questions with the difficulty controlled at every stage, and item response theory puts every score on the same scale.
A built-in check flags unusual response patterns, including those AI use can leave, and prompts you to retest. Randomized questions make shared answers of little use, and remote supervision is available for regulated or senior hiring.
Yes. There is a timed numerical practice test with feedback on every answer, plus an offline preparation guide. It is also the quickest way for your hiring team to see what candidates experience.
Test numerical reasoning only where the role needs it, set any cut-off from a job analysis, and pair it with a behavioral assessment. A cut-off above the 50th percentile needs extra justification, so talk to us before you set one.
