Test User: Occupational Ability and Personality
Formerly BPS Level A & B
Our aptitude tests show how well someone thinks their way through work they have never seen before. Wave®, our behavioral assessment, shows what they will deliver, how well, and where they will struggle.
Many tools measure personality. Run together, these two predict performance, and cut the risk of a poor hire by 90%.
8 to 12 hours of e-learning, then 2.5 days of live tutoring, and you are certified to use both, and the output reports behind them, on real decisions. See why practitioners choose Saville.

Test User: Ability & Personality
Qualifies you to run aptitude tests, interpret Wave® behavioral profiles, and feed results back to candidates and managers.
Two kinds of assessment, one qualification
Wave®, our behavioral assessment
Most behavioral assessments tell you what someone is like. Wave®, our own model, tells you what they will deliver, how well, and where they will struggle.
It reads what someone is good at alongside what they want to do more of, and the gap between those two is where development conversations stop being guesswork.
Independently reviewed by the British Psychological Society, scoring 27 out of 30.
Aptitude, our cognitive ability tests
Verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning.
They show how well someone thinks their way through work they have never seen before: the difference between contributing in month two and still finding their feet in month six.
Reasoning used on its own can create adverse impact. Put it alongside Wave® and fairness improves while the prediction gets stronger.
What you'll gain
Qualifying is what lets you advise with confidence: read both halves of the picture, reach the right conclusion, and explain it to the people making the call.
People decisions that hold up
Reach a recommendation you can explain, defend and stand behind.
Both halves of the picture
Read what someone is driven to do alongside what they are able to do, and say what it means for this job.
Feedback that makes an impact
Most reports go half used because nobody talks anyone through them. Be the expert who does.
The deepest reports we produce
Qualifying unlocks the expert reports, and BPS and EFPA accreditation eligibility on completion.
In their words
The practice feedback session was structured well: I watched the course consultant deliver one first, then had a go at doing it myself.
Super professional, friendly and encouraging. It helped me grow and encouraged me to keep practicing afterwards.
How it works
The course runs in two parts. Complete the e-learning first, then join the live virtual tutoring with other delegates.
8 to 12 hours at your own pace
Self-paced modules covering the theory behind the assessments. A named consultant is available throughout. These have to be finished before the live sessions start.
2.5 days with a course director
Group discussion, quizzes, and small-group case studies with expert-led feedback. Take it in one block, or split it across two sets of dates with the ability part first.
Additional extras
A named consultant and a pre-course call, reference books for both assessments, a practical workbook, a check-in call, an assessment starter pack, Knowledge Hub access, and three complimentary expert reports from our deepest behavioral assessment.

Other trainng courses
Cognitive Ability only
Test User: Occupational Ability, formerly Level A. Four to six hours of e-learning and one live day, covering aptitude tests alone. Take this if screening at volume is the immediate need.
Behavior only
Test User: Occupational Personality, formerly Level B. Requires an ability qualification first, so it suits practitioners who already hold one and only need Wave®.
Already qualified elsewhere
The Wave® Transfer course converts an existing personality qualification in four hours of e-learning plus a live feedback practice session, so you can use Wave® without starting again.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, and you will not have to start again. If you hold a Test User: Occupational Personality qualification from SHL or any other provider recognized by the BPS, the Wave® Transfer course converts it in four hours of e-learning plus a live feedback practice session, and you come out able to use Wave® and the expert reports behind it.
The tool you qualify on decides the quality of advice you can give. Wave® measures motivation and capability together, so your recommendations rest on what predicts performance, not on a personality type. More on that on why practitioners choose Saville.
Yes. Test User: Occupational Ability and Personality is the current name for what used to be called BPS Level A and B. The content and the accreditation eligibility are the same.
No. This course assumes no previous assessment experience. It suits HR, organizational, learning and development, and recruitment professionals, and consultants advising clients on hiring and development.
Eight to twelve hours of self-paced e-learning, then 2.5 days of live virtual tutoring. Most delegates spread the e-learning over two to three weeks before their session.
No. The live tutoring can be split across two sets of dates. If you split it, the ability part has to come before the personality part.
