7-Eleven Mexico

Solution used:
7-Eleven
Locations
Where they started
15,400 people, 2,500 stores, a million customers a day

7-Eleven Mexico, managed by Grupo Iconn, hires continuously for store associate, customer service, food handling and shift supervisor roles across 13 states

Context: hundreds of candidates a month, screened by traditional methods that were slow, inconsistent from region to region, and produced no meaningful behavioral data
Constraint: speed-to-hire directly affects store productivity, so any screen had to be fast as well as valid
The Challenge

Hundreds of frontline hires a month, and a screen that could not keep up

With more than 2,500 stores across 13 states and over 15,400 employees, 7-Eleven Mexico needs a constant supply of operational talent, and the right people, fast, without giving up the predictive validity that protects long-term performance.

The behavioral profile for the roles is specific: reliability, a strong service orientation, the ability to work under pressure, and the composure to handle fast-paced, customer-facing shifts, often rotating or overnight. A poor hire costs more than the individual, reaching store operations, team morale, customer experience and the brand itself.

Before the change, the talent acquisition teams faced the familiar mass-hiring problem. Traditional screening was time-consuming, inconsistent across regions, and generated no meaningful behavioral data at the speed the business required. Evaluating hundreds of candidates a month across multiple states needed a tool that was both a rapid digital questionnaire and a validated personality assessment.

“When you are hiring across 13 states with dozens of teams making daily decisions, the risk of drift, of each location developing its own informal criteria, is very real. A validated, standardized behavioral screen closes that gap.”

What We Did

One short screen, one standard across 13 states, better interviews at the end

Working with cdg, our authorized partner in Mexico, 7-Eleven Mexico added a six-and-a-half-minute behavioral screen between the first candidate filter and the interview.

Three stages

A screening layer after the first filter

The behavioral screen, powered by Wave, was introduced as a structured step after initial candidate filtering, so talent acquisition teams could evaluate behavioral fit for the store associate profile before progressing anyone to interview.

One score, one standard

Each candidate’s answers produce a single role-fit score. Recruiters across different states and store formats apply the same objective standard in place of impression-based screening, and because the questionnaire takes six and a half minutes on desktop or mobile, completed independently and in the candidate’s own time, dropout at the screening stage stayed low.

Better interviews for hiring managers

An interview guide turned each candidate’s behavioral data into targeted questions, improving the quality and consistency of final-stage conversations in an organization where interviewer experience varies from store to store and region to region.

Where they got to
Faster screening, stronger finalists

more candidates screened without more recruiter time, and a finalist pool that matched the operational role profile

Capacity: A significant expansion of screening capacity without a proportional increase in recruiter time or cost
Pipeline: Low dropout at the screening stage, so the breadth of the applicant pipeline was preserved
Quality: A more homogeneous pool of finalists whose behavioral characteristics matched the operational role profile
Performance signals: Associates selected this way showed stronger indicators of service orientation, composure under pressure and adherence to routine
The Results

Moving fast, and moving with precision

A validated screen that takes six and a half minutes let 7-Eleven Mexico widen its hiring funnel and sharpen it at the same time.

On efficiency, the brevity of the questionnaire and its availability on desktop and mobile let the talent acquisition teams expand screening capacity significantly without a proportional increase in recruiter time or cost. Candidates completed it independently, so early-funnel scheduling bottlenecks fell away.

On quality, a scientifically validated behavioral screen produced a more consistent pool of finalists aligned to the operational role profile, and the associates selected through it showed stronger indicators of service orientation, composure under pressure and adherence to routine, the behaviors that matter most in convenience retail.

“In massive hiring processes, the instinct is often to simplify everything down to logistics: how many candidates can we move through today. What Match 6.5 allows organizations like 7-Eleven to do is hold both demands simultaneously. You are moving fast, but you are also moving with precision. The role-fit score gives the recruiter a clear signal in seconds, and the science behind it means that signal can be trusted.”
